"A London Lover" by Meritta Koivisto

INTRODUCTION
”A London Lover” is about secret relationships– the reasons and the consequences - all seen from the different female and male characters’ point of view, centering around the main character, history teacher Vernon Pembrook’s darkest secret. The story takes place mainly in early 70’s in the fictional small town of Pickesbury and in London.

Excerpts from reviews
Koivisto’s text is masterly and delightful. The entire novel is written with a twinkle of idiosyncratic humor. -- . Koivisto is above all a master of nuance—her language changes easily from a titillating atmosphere to scenes of hopelessness, stark loneliness and disappointment.

Review by Johanna Vihanto
The London Lover pulls the reader in immediately, because Koivisto writes in a flowing, expressive manner and with a good sense of rhythm. --- She is actually quite skillful at combining humor and tragedy. Just imagine the shy schoolboy marking with a red pen the Principal’s wife’s erogenic zones. --- The London Lover is smooth reading and its visual language imprints the events onto the reader’s retina.

Review by Riitta Kurkijärvi
Meritta Koivisto’s first novel The London Lover charms us with its skillful and airily light approach. --- The novel is full of mischievous humor which isn’t obvious but hides between the lines. --- Meritta Koivisto builds her charming story in an airy, non-moralizing fashion.
